After the march kicked off at noon, the final contingent crossed the finish line nine and a half hours later - in the dark, when there were very few of those spectators left to cheer for them.įor those in charge of logistics for the march, it was clear that the event - one of the oldest and most famous of its kind in the world - had simply gotten too long. Marchers, along with 80 floats, were cheered on by approximately 2 million spectators. For the first time, the event was broadcast live on network television, and the number of marchers reached a reported all-time high - some 40,000 people.
Last year’s Pride March in New York City was one for the record books.
